RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – There was a massive Black Lives Matter protest outside a Donald Trump campaign rally at Radford University on Monday. This all comes as some have taken to calling Trump the “Klandidate” for refusing to disavow ex-KKK leader David Duke.
The pastor of the Richmond Christian Center is announcing his support for Trump and dismissing this latest controversy.
“We need to come out from under what I call the Democratic platform….slavery,” said Pastor Steve Parson. “They are basically the master, and we are the slave.”
Parson claims Trump would be the best candidate for the African-American community.
“We need to set our people free, and I’m on a mission from God to set our people free,” said Pastor Parson. “Donald Trump represents wealth, and that’s what we as black people need. We need some money.”
Not everyone agrees with Pastor Parson when it comes to Trump and African-Americans.
“Most people I talk to are deathly afraid of Donald Trump,” said King Salim Khalfani, who is the executive director of the Virginia NAACP Conference. “He’s catering to the more prurient interests in society. He’s catering to white supremacy. He’s catering to racism. He has issues with women, and if that is not frightening to most people then we are in trouble.”
Pastor Parson dismisses this latest Trump controversy as desperation.
“It’s desperation to try to make this man a demon and to play the race card,” said Pastor Parson. “You have to play the race card today. There is not a racist bone in the man. This is all political stuff to turn people against him because of the fact that he is going to be the next president. I really do believe that, and he is best for the country.”
